Nawî çiye? Walid.
Jak se jmenuješ? Walid.
Tamanit çenda? Çwarda.
Kolik ti je? Čtrnáct.
Co cítíš když vstáváš se sluncem
abys dal napít svým šetseti ovcím
O čem přemyšlíš když je hlídáš
celý den ve stínu vojenských základen
O čem se ti zdá když usínáš
při tlumeném svitu olejové
lampy aby tě skrze střechu
stanu z husté černé vlny
nezaznamenaly turecké drony
Nawî çiye? Walid.
Jak se jmenuješ? Walid.
Tamanit çenda? Çwarda.
Kolik ti je? Čtrnáct.
Raketa, která nám prolétla nad hlavou
trhala vzduch i naše vnitřnosti
odtrhla kus skály
jen pár kilometrů za námi
Já po obědě odjedu ale ty
v Kělašínu do podzimu zůstaneš
Setkáme se ještě?
Setkáme se ještě?
Walid.
--------------------------------------------------------
Kělašín je rozléhlá nahorní plošina v jižním Kurdistánu (v Iráku) u hranic s Kurdistánem Východním (v Íránu) a Severním (v Turecku).

WALID
Nawî çiye? Walid.
What’s your name? Walid.
Tamanit çenda? Çwarda.
How old are you? Fourteen.
What do you feel as you rise up with the sun
to quench the thirst of six hundred sheep
What do you contemplate about
as you watch your sheep all day
under the shadow of the military bases
What do you dream about when you fall asleep
in the dim light of an oil lamp
hoping the Turkish drones will not register you
through the roof of the tent made of thick black wool
Nawî çiye? Walid.
What’s your name? Walid.
Tamanit çenda? Çwarda.
How old are you? Fourteen.
The rocket that flew over our heads
was tearing the air and our insides
it ripped apart a piece of mountain
just a few kilometers behind us
After lunch I will leave
but you will stay in Kêlaşîn until the autumn
Will we meet again?
Will we meet again?
Walid.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kêlaşîn is a vast plateau in Southern Kurdistan (in Iraq) on the borders with Eastern Kurdistan (in Iran) and Northern Kurdistan (in Turkey). From spring to autumn, it serves as temporary home for hundreds of families who come here from villages in the valleys to graze their flocks of sheep and goats. Like Walid, the families live in tents made of thick black wool and go to sleep each night thinking about whether they would wake up in the morning. Despite the attacks of two armies armed with sophisticated weapons, families return to Kêlaşîn every spring, just as their ancestors have done since time immemorial.
The defiance of ancient life against modern death.

Naříkej

NAŘÍKEJ NAD SMRTÍ svých pánů
NAŘÍKEJ NAD SMRTÍ svých vládců
padali ze svých nebetyčných věží
PADALI K ZEMI a křičeli:
nás nikdy nikdo nezastaví
nás nikdy nikdo nezastaví
nás nikdy nezastaví nic!
NAŘÍKEJ NAD SMRTÍ svých pánů
NAŘÍKEJ NAD SMRTÍ svých vládců
padali k zemi a za nimi padaly
i jejich nebetyčné věže
A S NIMI JSI PADAL I TY
A S NIMI JSI PADALA I TY
na sutinách jejich věží za svitu měsíce
ty prokleté, zašlapaní a poslední
tancem oslaví vítězství
pak nastane nový den
a za rozbřesku začnem stavět zahrady
aby nezbylo nic
z čeho stavět znova věže
na sutinách jejich věží
pak spolu postavíme zahrady
na sutinách jejich věží
pak TANCEM OSLAVÍME VÍTĚZSTVÍ
---------------------------------------------------
MOURN the death of your masters
MOURN the death of those who rule
they were falling from their towers reaching to the heavens
while falling down they kept on screaming:
no one will ever stop us
nothing will ever stop us!
MOURN the death of your masters
MOURN the death of those who rule
they were falling down and behind them
their towers reaching to the heavens were falling
and with them, YOU WERE FALLING TOO
and with them, YOU WERE FALLING TOO.
on the ruins of their towers
by the light of the moon
those who were cursed, crushed and the last
will dance celebrating victory
and a new day will break
while the sun be rising
we will begin to build gardens
until there is nothing left
from which towers could be built again
on the rubbles of their towers
WE WILL BUILD GARDENS TOGETHER
on the rubbles of their towers
WE WILL DANCE CELEBRATING VICTORY.

Oheň Newrozu

VIDÍM NA OBZORU
HOŘET OHEŇ NEWROZU
kolébku kultur, tisíce let příběhů
nezničily impéria a války
a nerozdrtí ani další turecká invaze
od vrcholku Agirî po Şarazûr zní
píseň naděje a tanec života který mění běh dějin
Svoboda je víc než přežít!
Kurdistán povstává z popela fosforových bomb a vypálených vesnic
a zazáří brzy jako první oheň Newrozu
Kawa už nebude mýtickým příběhem
ale budeš jim ty a budu jím já
a naším kladivem bude solidarita
VIDÍM NA OBZORU
HOŘET OHEŇ NEWROZU
--------------------------------------------------------------------

THE FIRE OF NEWROZ
I can see on the horizon
the burning fire of Newroz
the craddle of cultures and millenia of stories
have not been destroyed by empires and wars
and will not be crushed by yet another turkish invasion
from the peak of Agirî to Şarazûr
resounds a song of hope and a dance of life
that is changing the course of history
Freedom is so much more than mere survival!
Kurdistan rises from the ashes of posphorus bombs
and villages burned to the ground
soon, it will shine like the first fire of Newroz
Kawa will not stay being a mythical story
but you and I will become him
and our hammer will be our solidarity.
I CAN SEE ON THE HORIZON
THE BURNING FIRE OF NEWROZ
----------------------------------------------------
In the past 12 years, Kurdistan, the land of ancient and diverse cultures, has become my home and the solidarity with the resistance against invasion and cross-border bombardments has become an indispensable part of my everyday life.
Nothing equals the view from the village of Rûste (in southern Kurdistan) at the bonfires being lit up, one after another and then another and another, down both slopes of the entire length of the deeply green valley up to the snowy mountainous horizon reddened by the rays of the last sunset of the year. Newroz (March 21) marks the beginning of the Kurdish year, as well as the anticipation of radical and transforming events that will lead to freedom from foreign rule and oppression. According to an ancient legend, after the blacksmith Kawa crushed the head of a despotic ruler with his hammer, the news of liberation from the tyrant spread throughout the land through bonfires lit on the mountain ranges from horizon to horizon.
From the "Mount of Fire" Agrî (also known as Ararat) in the north to the fertile plains of Şarazûr in the south (and of course from Mehabad to Efrîn and beyond), far-reaching changes are taking place not only through guerrilla warfare but mainly through nonviolent resistance and radical initiatives that are led by women, youth, civil society and all those who stood up to oppression and chose life and freedom as their way.
