Během posledních dvanácti let se mi Kurdistán, země různorodých kultur, stal domovem a solidarita se vzdorem vůči invazi a náletům náplní mých dnů.

Není nad pohled z vesnice Rûste (v jižním Kurdistánu) na rozhořívající se vatry, jedna za druhou a pak další a další, po obou svazích celé délky zeleného údolí až po zasněžený hornatý obzor zrudlý od paprsků posledního západu roku. Newroz (21. březen) je počátkem kurdského roku, a rovněž očekáváním zlomovových údalostí, které povedou ke svobodě od cizí nadvlády a útlaku. Podle pradávné legendy, potom, co kovář Kawa svým kladivem rozdrtil hlavu despotického vládce, se zpráva o osvobození od tyrana rozšířila po celé zemi skrze zapalené ohně na vrcholcích hor od obzoru po obzor.

Od „Ohnivé hory“ Agirî (známé i jako Ararat) na severu po úrodné planiny Şarazûr na jihu (a samozřejmě od Mehabadu po Efrîn a mnohem dále), probíhají dalekosáhlé změny nejenom skrze guerillový boj ale především díky nenásilnému odporu a radikálním iniciativám, které vedou ženy, mládež, občanská společnost a všichni, kdo se postavili útlaku a zvolili za svou cestu života a svobody.

I can see on the horizon
the burning fire of Newroz

the craddle of cultures and millenia of stories
have not been destroyed by empires and wars
and will not be crushed by yet another turkish invasion

from the peak of Agirî to Şarazûr
resounds a song of hope and a dance of life
that is changing the course of history

Freedom is so much more than mere survival!

Kurdistan rises from the ashes of posphorus bombs
and villages burned to the ground
soon, it will shine like the first fire of Newroz

Kawa will not stay being a mythical story
but you and I will become him
and our hammer will be our solidarity.

THE BURNING FIRE OF NEWROZ

In the past 12 years, Kurdistan, the land of ancient and diverse cultures, has become my home and the solidarity with the resistance against invasion and cross-border bombardments has become an indispensable part of my everyday life.

Nothing equals the view from the village of Rûste (in southern Kurdistan) at the bonfires being lit up, one after another and then another and another, down both slopes of the entire length of the deeply green valley up to the snowy mountainous horizon reddened by the rays of the last sunset of the year. Newroz (March 21) marks the beginning of the Kurdish year, as well as the anticipation of radical and transforming events that will lead to freedom from foreign rule and oppression. According to an ancient legend, after the blacksmith Kawa crushed the head of a despotic ruler with his hammer, the news of liberation from the tyrant spread throughout the land through bonfires lit on the mountain ranges from horizon to horizon.

From the "Mount of Fire" Agrî (also known as Ararat) in the north to the fertile plains of Şarazûr in the south (and of course from Mehabad to Efrîn and beyond), far-reaching changes are taking place not only through guerrilla warfare but mainly through nonviolent resistance and radical initiatives that are led by women, youth, civil society and all those who stood up to oppression and chose life and freedom as their way.
